Coconut oil is the number 1 thing you should stock up on for your primal pantry when living primally. This is because coconut oil is absolutely packed full of MCTs – medium-chain triglycerides. MCTs are the really good fat guys and the king of the MCT jungle is the coconut. When consumed, they turn almost immediately into fuel, help the body convert body fat into energy and some people say it can even help suppress hunger. Much of these properties are down to the fact that their shorter chain length, they travel pretty quickly from the digestive tract to the liver, where they can quickly be converted to energy or morphed into ketones.
If you are feeling low on energy, see what happens after consuming just a teaspoon of coconut oil – you may surprised by how quickly you feel energised! Our top culinary tip for coconut oil is to add to your morning black coffee – it’s a popular choice in the Primal Cure office for helping on fasting days.
Our coconut oil is cold pressed at the very lowest temperature possible. Whilst this provides a smaller yield, it makes for an exceptional quality oil, and you can really taste the difference.
Coconut oil will soon become your flexible friend that lives in the kitchen, bathroom and your handbag. As well as creating gorgeous primal foods – Thai curry, add to smoothies or even just as a replacement for lining baking tins.
Even though it’s called coconut oil, in the tub it is fairly solid, but will very quickly turn liquid upon contact with skin.
Crammed with plenty of helpful and healthy fats, coconut oil is a brilliant moisturiser for both hair and skin. Lauric acid is full of antibacterial properties, which will benefit both hair and skin. Because coconut oil can penetrate deep into the skin and hair shaft, it will lock in moisture very effectively, as well as the other benefits found from coconut oil, including its antibacterial and anti-fungal properties.
Coconut oil is becoming a popular natural makeup remover, but those with oily or acne-prone skin will need to start by applying a very small amount to their skin, as the emollient properties of coconut oil are so effective they can clog up some skin pores. Having said that, many beauty and skin care experts swear by switching all their skin care products to just 1 tub of coconut oil.
If you aren’t sure about applying coconut oil to your face, it will certainly take care of any areas of dry skin elsewhere on the body, such as elbows or cracked heels. Some people even use it as an effective shaving cream!
Its gorgeous scent makes it a popular hair conditioning treatment, too. It works best on the ends of your hair, applying to hair for 30 minutes to 1 hour before washing out with a natural shampoo.

Please note: due to its natural nature, you may find that your Coconut Oil becomes very solid, especially if left in a much cooler environment. This is perfectly normal and can be easily corrected by placing your jar of Coconut Oil in a bowl or mug of very warm water. Please take special care when using warm/hot water, and take the lid off first! You should soon find the Coconut Oil turns to liquid - if not, just replace the water with warmer water. Once it's reached your desired consistency, use a spoon to take out how much you need.
